Jumping in late as well.

By now you're probably wondering what you've got yourself into. Ask one Dead Head a question and you'll get a million responses, so if you can slog through another....

Given that you like Zep (what's not to like?), you may want to focus on some of the Dead's more heavy "rock and roll" sound periods, and I would suggest searching out some of the Dick's Picks CD's of shows covering the 1977 1978 years. Off the top of my head #'s 1, 10, 25 and 29 fill the bill.

The Dead will never "sound" like Zep or have the hard, clean sound that Plant, et al produced, but there are moments of Garcia leading jams that would make Jimmy proud: Look for 2nd set versions of songs like THE OTHER ONE, ST STEPHEN, NOT FADE AWAY....if you want to hear the band's more exploratory songs, with improvisation jazzy, spacey jams look for 2nd set PLAYIN IN THE BAND, EYES OF THE WORLD,ESTIMATED PROPHET...

There are also great shows available here on the archive that are decent AUD quality, and if I may suggest two you can download and will enjoy:

10/29/77, N. Illinois Univ.

and 5/1/81 Hampton, VA> (this is one of the better sounding AUDs in the archive and in fact is superior to the soundboard.)

Most of all, welcome, and Enjoy!
